Fence and gate repairs
Leaning posts, blown-over panels, gates that will not latch, rattling sheets. We fix what can sensibly be fixed and tell you straight when a fence is past repairing.
Most fence repairs come down to the posts. A leaning Colorbond fence is fixed by digging out either side of the post to expose the existing concrete, levelling the post and adding more concrete. Damaged sheets, rails and palings are replaced with matching material; gates are re-hung, adjusted and re-latched.
Our rule of thumb: if more than about three posts need re-concreting, the fence was probably not built well and you would be paying for a repair now and a replacement soon. In that case we recommend a new fence instead, and we will say so in the quote.
For storm and insurance work we provide a written quote suitable for your insurer, remove the damaged fence and rebuild to match the existing where possible. Send photos with your enquiry and we can usually give a preliminary price the same day.
Repairs and replacements
Common problems and what we do
- Leaning fence – expose the footing, plumb the post, add concrete. If several posts are moving, we advise replacement.
- Rattling Colorbond – sheets have worked loose from the rails or the rails from the posts; we re-fix with new tek screws and, if needed, replace bent rails.
- Rust – Colorbond rusts where water sits for months (soil against the sheet, double-sheeted panels, sprinklers). Affected sheets are replaced; we advise on drainage so it does not come back.
- Dents – minor dents in Colorbond can be pulled with a suction dent puller; badly creased sheets are replaced.
- Gate dragging or not latching – usually a moved post or worn hinge. We re-set the post or replace the hinges and adjust the latch.
- Timber post rotted at ground – the post is replaced with a galvanised steel post; palings and rails are re-used where sound.
Backfilling and drainage
Do not backfill a fence line with loose gravel or decorative stone – it does not support concreted posts. The ground around posts needs to be compacted soil, and garden beds should not hold water against Colorbond sheets.
